What is FSSAI?
FSSAI, an acronym for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India that monitors and governs registered food business in India. It is an autonomous body that comes under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of India, Government of India (MoHFW). FSSAI Department made it mandatory for every food manufacturer or distributor to have FSSAI Registration.
In 2006, this governing body was established under the Food Safety and Standards Act aka FSS Act. The need for FSSAI was to ensure better food quality across India. It ensures that food products across India undergo quality checks thereby restraining food adulteration and the sale of less standard products. FSSAI is also responsible for the registration and licensing process for various Food Business Operators (FBOs) in India. Nonetheless, it is responsible for laying down rules and regulations for businesses dealing with food across India.
FSSAI Registration Process – Documents Required, Benefits
FSSAI license is mandatory compliance that ensures the safety of food products supplied or manufactured by various establishments in India.
- At first, you need to submit Form A to the Food and Safety Department.
- It can be accepted or rejected by the department within 30 days from the day of receipt of an application.
- If the application is accepted, the Food and Safety Department will grant a registration certificate with a registration number and the applicant’s photo.
- Aadhar Card & Pan Card, Photo of the Authorised Person
- Document for Identity Proof like Ration Card, Voter ID Card, PAN Card, Driving License, Passport, Aadhaar Card, Senior Citizen Card, Department Issued ID
